Portlim is a 100 per cent male hybrid and is ideally suited to the cultivation of green asparagus in regions with a temperate climate. Portlim combines mid-early production with high yields and a long, profitable lifespan.
Portlim has high production potential, excellent quality and very good stem thickness. Portlim’s head closure remains excellent even in warm conditions during harvest. The variety has excellent stem thickness, which shows little decline over the course of its productive years. Portlim produces attractive, smooth spears with a cylindrical shape.
Portlim thrives best in fertile, well-drained soil. In long-term trials, the best results in greenhouse cultivation have been achieved with a planting density of 4 plants per linear metre and a planting depth of 15–20 cm. Portlim is a robust variety that can still produce acceptable yields even under more challenging conditions.
Portlim’s uniform foliage is upright and has an open structure. The foliage is highly resistant to lodging and has good tolerance to leaf disease.
